Last Pulmonary Clinical

Last night we had our last pulmonary clinical. I had a lot of fun doing leadership this week. It was neat to learn about each of my classmates' patients and help them with their patient care. Next week we will be on the Orthopedic unit. I am excited to go back to day shift again!

Clinical Update

LU just put this up in the Nursing Department hallway. I just love it!

So I have finally gotten through the first week of clinicals. I absolutely loved my Mother/Baby clinical rotation. The first day I took care of the mother and the second day I got to take care of both the mother and the baby. I was able to assess the mother and the baby. I also got to see the physician perform a circumcision. My favorite part of the mother/baby clinical was working with both the mom and baby! I had two clinicals back to back the other weekend, but my last clinical got canceled because of the SNOW :[. I will be making that clinical up in March.

This past Friday I also had my first pulmonary clinical. I loved the pulmonary floor too! Our first clinical got cut off short due to an incoming snow storm, but I enjoyed the time we had up on the floor. My patient was sent home, but I got to take care of a patient who had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs). Some of my classmates got to take care of trachs (opening in the trachea, for breathing), it was very neat to see. My clinical instructor is very sweet and encouraging! I hope to learn a lot more over the next few weeks!

Tomorrow, weather permiting, I have my Neonatal clinical for my mother/baby class! I did a clinical in the ICN (intensive care nursery) last semester for PEDS and loved it! I am so excited to go back tomorrow. This weekend I will be studying for my first Med-Surg test of the semester. Please keep me in your prayers!

Pulmonary and Orthopedics!!

Today we had orientation for our Med-Surg clinicals. Last semester I was on the Progressive Cardiac Unit and the Diabetic Renal Medical Unit. This semester I will be on the Pulmonary Unit (evening shift) and then at the end of the semester I will be on the Orthopedic Unit (day shift).

(Doesn't that sound like fun?!) :]

I am SO excited to be on different units this semester! My first Pulmonary clinical is next Friday! My clinical instructor mentioned that we will be taking care of a lot of ventilators, NG tubes, IV/PCA pumps and oxygen therapy. I look forward to learning more about the Pulmonary Unit!

Mother Baby Clinical!!

The second semester has already started!

This Monday I had orientation for my Mother Baby class! We got our schedules for the rest of the semester. And I have clinical THIS weekend! I have a 7:30am-7pm shift Saturday and Sunday and my last one next Saturday! I will have my Labor and Delivery clinical in April! I had my first mother baby class this Tuesday night and I loved it!

(My check off sheet)

This week has been kinda stressful getting all my preclinical assignments done (a couple of worksheets, medication chart, and check offs)! My check off today went really well. For mother baby we have to check off on Foley catheters, Sitz Baths (a basin of hot water that a mother sits in after she has a baby, it's good for hygiene, comfort, and increases circulation), Staple removal, IM injections, Blood pressure, and Medication administration. The senior that checked me off was so nice and encouraging! God has given me a lot of grace to get this all finished before Saturday! I'm really looking forward to this weekend! I hope to learn a lot and to be a light on the Mother Baby unit. I pray that God will use me for His glory this weekend!
